本物の帯の生地をアップサイクルして作られたがま口2Wayバッグです。

伝統的な和の美しさを活かしながら、現代のスタイルにマッチするデザインに仕上げました。特別な日の装いにはもちろん、普段使いにもおすすめです。持ち手のチェーンのつけ外しにより、クラッチバッグ／ハンドバッグの2Wayとしてお使い頂けます。
「五七（ごしち）の桐」と「星付き七宝（しっぽう）」の家紋をモチーフとした、美しい刺しゅうと織りをお楽しみください。正式な家紋ではなく洒落紋のような文様ですので、どなたでもお使い頂けます。

日本では成人式で多くの女性が着物に身を包みます。

が、その時買った着物や帯も、その後は結婚式などで数回着たっきり…という方も多いのではないでしょうか。

女性が外に働きに出ることが一般的でなかった時代、着物や帯は女性にとって「財産」と考えられていました。いざという時は売って、生活を支えることができる高級品だったからです。

---

しかし女性の社会進出が進み、着物に対する価値観は「財産」から「装い」へと変化しました。経済的に着物や帯に頼る必要がなくなった反面、着付けに費やす「時間的なハードル」が高くなり、結果として着物や帯の出番が減ってしまいました。

そして残念なことに、日本の商慣行では、物は古くなると価値が下がるのが一般的です。家などが最も分かりやすい例ですが、需要の減少した帯や着物も同じです。

日本が誇る上質な素材、高い技術、伝統、美が詰まったこんなに素晴らしい物が、そんなふうに扱われるのはとても悲しいことです。

そこで、古い帯から保存状態の良い美しい部分を選んで、着物を着ない人にも楽しんで頂ける全く別の作品としてアップサイクルする試みとして、「キモノクラフトプロジェクト」を始めます。

A kiss lock clutch bag / handbag made from an authentic upcycled obi (a pure silk sash belt) for kimonos. 

It blends traditional Japanese beauty with a modern design that suits any style. Perfect for special occasions and everyday use.By attaching and detaching the chain on the handle, it can be used as both a clutch bag and a handbag.

Enjoy the beautiful embroidery and weaving based on the family crest motifs of "Goshichi-no-kiri" and "Hoshitsuki Shippo". The pattern is more of a fashion crest rather than an official family crest, so anyone can use it.

Kimono Craft Studio Project

 

In Japan, many young women wear kimonos to celebrate their “coming-of-age” ceremony when they turn 20. It’s a beautiful tradition!

But after that, unfortunately, most people only get a few chances to wear a kimono in their lifetime, maybe at a friend’s wedding or another formal event.Why? Because wearing a kimono, especially tying an obi without a kimono dresser is VERY HARD! It takes practice, time, and skill.

For modern busy women, it’s tough to wear something that requires so many hours; booking an appointment with a kimono dresser, moving to her place, and getting dressed for such a long time. ▲Photo: from AC Photo

In the days when it was not common for women to go out to work, kimonos and obis were considered "assets" for women.

Because they were made using high-quality silk and were full of craftsmanship. And if times got tough, they could be sold to support their living.

But, as more women entered the workforce, the value of kimonos changed from "assets" to "attire."
While there was no longer a need to rely on kimonos and obis financially, the "time hurdle" of putting them on became higher, and as a result, kimonos and obi were worn less.

Unfortunately, in Japanese business practices, it is common for things to lose value as they get older.
Houses are the most obvious example, but the same is true for obis and kimonos, for which demand has decreased.

Isn’t it heartbreaking to see such beautiful, well-preserved items treated this way?

So, I decided to upcycle the most well-preserved parts from these damaged and forgotten obis tucked away in the closets into other items that people worldwide can enjoy. Each piece is full of tradition, craftsmanship, and history. And now, it can be part of your life, too.

*From the perspective of the SDGs, second-hand obis are used for this piece. I try to select beautiful parts in as good condition as possible, but there may be creases, wrinkles, distortions, or snags from when it was used as a kimono obi. The obi has been repaired as much as possible without damaging the fabric, but I hope you will understand that this is part of the story that this obi has carved out.
